Whispers of Collected Wonders

Daily writing prompt
Do you have any collections?

Some collect memories. Some collect fleeting moments of wonder. I collect both—captured in delicate treasures that whisper stories only the heart can hear.

My snowglobes are tiny dreamscapes, holding swirling flakes and frozen scenes, little worlds locked in time. Each one speaks of places I’ve wandered, places I long to see, or moments worth remembering.

Antique blue glass gleams with an otherworldly light, its deep sapphire hues carrying echoes of past artisans, forgotten histories, and sunlit windows in homes I’ve never known. There’s something timeless in its glow, something that feels like holding the past in the palm of my hand.

My mother’s souvenir spoon collection is more than just silver and shapes—it’s a map of journeys taken, laughter shared, and places touched by her wonder. I trace the intricate designs, and in them, I find traces of her spirit, her adventures still alive in delicate engravings.

And hummingbirds—their iridescent feathers, their fleeting presence, their tireless dance between nectar and sky. Whether in figurines, paintings, or fleeting real-life encounters, they remind me to savor the moment, to embrace joy wherever it lands.

Now, if we’re talking about collections, let’s not forget the one we all wish we weren’t growing—bills. Ah yes, the ever-expanding museum of unexpected expenses, overdue notices, and subscriptions we forgot we signed up for. My collection is quite impressive, really—it features a diverse assortment of utility statements, medical bills with numbers that look suspiciously like phone numbers, and credit card charges for that one online shopping spree where “just one more item” spiraled out of control. A true masterpiece of adulting! If only they appreciated in value like antique blue glass.

We all collect something, whether tangible or intangible. What do you hold close? What whispers to you from the shelves of your own memories?
