Embracing My Own Gifts—Discovering What I’m Good At

Growing up, I wasn’t the athletic type. While I loved watching sports and encouraging my children to participate, I never excelled in the physical world of competition. And hobbies? I tried. I learned to embroider but never mastered sewing like my mother or sisters. My sister attempted to teach me how to crochet, but that skill never found its way into my hands.

But creativity? That’s where my heart thrives.

💡 Finding Passion Through Art While I may not have followed the traditional hobbies of my family, I discovered my own unique space—drawing, painting, and writing. There’s something magical about putting pen to paper, brush to canvas, and turning fleeting emotions into something tangible.

Creating, Expressing, and Growing Art isn’t just about skill—it’s about expression. It’s about feeling deeply and translating those emotions into colors, words, and images that tell a story. Writing, for me, has become a way to process thoughts, share reflections, and craft moments that might otherwise fade.

🔍 Embracing What Comes Naturally Not every skill is meant to be mastered, and that’s okay. What matters is finding what feels right, what comes naturally, and what brings joy. My creativity is mine—it may not fit neatly into traditional categories, but it is uniquely me.

We spend so much time focusing on what we need to improve, what we lack, and where we fall short. But what if, for a moment, we shifted the focus? What if we celebrated the things we excel at—the skills, qualities, and talents that make us uniquely capable?

💡 Recognizing Your Strengths We often underestimate what we’re good at because it comes naturally to us. But the truth is, our strengths deserve recognition. Whether it’s creativity, leadership, kindness, problem-solving, or resilience—these qualities shape how we navigate life.

What Defines Your Talent? Think about the moments when you feel confident, engaged, and fully in your element.

  • Do you have a way with words—expressing emotions, ideas, or storytelling?
  • Are you a natural at bringing people together, making connections?
  • Do you thrive in problem-solving, seeing solutions where others see obstacles?
  • Are you good at creating beauty—whether through art, design, or meaningful moments?

🚀 Embracing Your Gifts Once we recognize what we’re good at, we can harness it.

✔️ Build on it—honing our craft, skills, or talents.

✔️ Use it for impact—helping others, creating, inspiring.

✔️ Celebrate it—because self-appreciation leads to growth.

🔍 The Power of Self-Awareness Knowing what you excel at is not about arrogance—it’s about self-awareness. It’s about understanding how you contribute, where you shine, and what drives your passion.

💭 A Reflection

  • What are you naturally good at?
  • What strengths have others noticed in you?
  • How can you lean into those skills even more?
  • Have you discovered unexpected talents along the way?
  • How do your strengths help shape who you are?

When we acknowledge what makes us strong, we step into our potential.

The beauty of skill isn’t in perfection—it’s in the passion behind it. And that, I’ve learned, is more valuable than any mastered technique.

What’s a talent you’ve embraced, even if it wasn’t what you originally expected?
