Life after loss is a journey of rebuilding, rediscovering, and embracing the unexpected. Since my husband’s passing in October 2021, I have walked this path with reflection, uncertainty, and quiet resilience. Through it all, I’ve learned that grief doesn’t mean stopping—it means learning to carry love forward in new ways.
One of the most profound changes in my life has been reconnecting with my high school sweetheart—someone who knew me long before life shaped me into who I am today. Two and a half years together, living 1,000 miles apart, balancing blended families and personal healing—it hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it. We’ve found a rhythm that works for us, sharing time between our homes, allowing space for growth, and navigating the delicate task of blending families with care.
If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that there is no single roadmap for life after loss. What works for one person may not work for another, and that’s okay. What matters is honoring your journey, giving yourself permission to embrace joy again, even when it feels unfamiliar.
New Chapters at Any Age
Recently, I celebrated another milestone: being named to the Dean’s List at Baker College! Returning to school at 60 was a leap of faith—but one I took with the belief that new beginnings don’t come with an age limit. The process of learning, writing, and growing has helped shape this new version of me, and I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to chase my dreams while carrying the love of my late husband in my heart.
Sharing the Journey Through Words
Another beautiful part of this journey has been starting my blog, Whispering Willow, where I reflect on life, grief, healing, and embracing new beginnings. Writing has always been a source of comfort for me, and now, through my blog, I hope to offer encouragement to others walking similar paths. You can visit and read more at Echoes of the Willow.
To those of you navigating loss and searching for a way forward—I see you, I support you, and I want to remind you:
Healing doesn’t mean forgetting. It means allowing love to transform into something new.
Whether through education, connection, or quiet self-reflection, we all deserve to find purpose again in the next chapter of life.
Wishing you strength and comfort as we journey together. 💙
