Some memories don’t fade—they shimmer.
In 2008, I set sail on a seven-day Caribbean cruise with three extraordinary women who have held space in my life through laughter, loss, and everything in between: Ruth, Alice, and Linda. We weren’t just boarding a ship—we were stepping into a shared pause, one that gave us sunlit mornings, ocean air, and the rare gift of undivided time.
Each day brought new shorelines and excursions, but some of the most vivid memories happened on the ship itself. Morning coffee on the deck as the sea slipped past. Late-night laughter echoed louder than the waves. Storytelling that turned into soul-baring. We drank under starlight, swam in turquoise waters, and ate meals that felt like feasts—because we were together.
What made this trip especially meaningful for me was something deeper: I had to learn to swim again. A traumatic experience from my youth had left me uneasy in the water for years. But with the gentle encouragement of my friends—and Linda’s patient guidance—I found the courage to step in. And off the coast of Nevis, I snorkeled for a few unforgettable minutes in the shimmering blue. It wasn’t just about swimming—it was reclaiming a part of myself I thought I’d lost.

There’s something sacred about traveling with friends who know your story inside out. We toasted to the past, dreamed aloud for the future, and in between, just breathed a little deeper.
It wasn’t just a vacation. It was a celebration of sisterhood, survival, and joy. And it remains, to this day, one of the most memorable voyages of my life.
