🌿 What’s Stirring at the Willow? What Are Your Future Travel Plans?

By Michelle Allen | echoesofthewillow.com

If you asked me this a few years ago, my answer would’ve included cozy cabins tucked in Michigan’s pines, quiet corners of antique bookstores, and maybe a detour down memory lane with a photo album in hand.

But today, the question feels different—less about miles and maps, more about meaning.

My heart longs to travel not just to places, but through stories. I want to walk where my ancestors stood. To see the waterlines they gazed across. To visit towns with names etched into my family tree—places tied to the Newberry’s and LaFleur’s’ and legacies, whispers of those who came before me.

I want to travel to spaces that feel sacred—places tied not only to my Newberry and LaFleur roots, but also to my Birr, Kieslich, and Engel lineage. Their stories stretch from Leipzic, Prussia to German towns I’ve only seen in faded photographs. From bustling Milwaukee to the quiet edges of Kenosha, Wisconsin. From the heartbeats of Chicago to the whispered prayers left in cemetery soil.

I dream of sitting in a café in Québec where Pierre LaFleur may have once spoken his dreams aloud. I hope to visit courthouses, graveyards, and libraries in tiny towns where pieces of my lineage remain scattered and waiting to be reunited.

I want to travel to spaces that feel sacred, maybe not famous or flashy, but rich with soul. I want to meet people with stories like mine—full of ache and beauty, heartbreak and homecoming.

These names aren’t just etched in documents—they’re etched in me. And visiting the places they walked, worked, and loved would feel like tracing the outline of my own spirit.

What would it mean to stand on the ground my ancestors called home? To breathe in the air they once knew? I hope to find out—step by sacred step.

🫖 Whether it’s a small road trip through Hesperia’s heritage or a cross-country journey that winds through old addresses and worn-down street signs, my future travel plans have less to do with escape, and everything to do with connection.

If you’re dreaming of a destination—whether for rest, for healing, or for rediscovery—I’d love to know. What are you chasing? And what do you hope to find when you get there?

Until next time, Michelle 🌳
