🌿 The Most Important Thing to Carry

By Michele Allen

Keys. Wallet. Phone. Maybe a protein bar and a water for the road. Most mornings, we check for these things—essentials, right? But lately, I’ve been wondering what else I need to carry. Not in my purse. In my heart.

Hope. That’s my answer. Because when the RSVP list is quiet… When grief shows up unannounced… When a plan fizzles… Hope whispers, “Try again.”

It’s the voice that tells me the garden will bloom again. That legacies take time. That someone out there is waiting for a gesture, a giggle, a casserole, a poem. It’s the reason I make the call, write the blog post, plan the party, or send the note—knowing it might just be the thing someone else needs to keep going.

Hope weighs nothing. It takes up no space. But it carries me.

So while I’ll still tuck lip balm into my bag, and jot my grocery list on a sticky note, I’m trying to make a habit of checking my heart, too.

“Got my hope today?” Yes. Always. Even when it feels fragile. Especially when it does.
