šæ Finding Joy in the Small Things

By Michelle Allen
šæ Finding Joy in the Small Things Sometimes happiness doesnāt announce itself with fireworks. It comes gentlyāwrapped in the laughter of grandchildren echoing through the yard, in the long-awaited hug that melts away weeks of distance, in the flicker of twilight candles and the whisper of garlic in a warm kitchen.
These are the things I gather. The tiny joys. The holy ordinary. The reminders that the best parts of life arenāt loud. Theyāre feltādeeply, quietly, like the warmth of sun-warmed tomatoes, the peace of quiet coffee mornings, and the tender legacy held in every shared meal.
This list isnāt just about what makes me smile. Itās about what roots me. What brings me back to center. What reminds me that connection, community, and the rhythm of love are always enough.
Because joy isnāt just foundāitās cultivated, remembered, and shared.
- Sun-warmed tomatoes picked from the garden
- A perfectly ripe peach from the farmersā market
- The sound of my grandchildren laughing from the next room
- A surprise āthank youā from someone unexpectedly.
- The way garlic smells when it hits the pan
- Hosting Pampered Chef parties where everyone feels seen
- Reconnecting with old friends who remember my stories
- Mornings that start with quiet coffee and no rush
- Writing blog posts that connect deeply with someone else
- Watching a thunderstorm roll in from my back deck or Danās front porch.
- Sweet corn with salt and butterābecause summer tastes like childhood
- Candles flickering in my kitchen at twilight
- That feeling when my community shows up for each other
- A handwritten note tucked into a random box bringing back forgotten memories.
- Remembering my sister Candy on one of our casino trips
- Planning themed giveaways that bring joy to someoneās day
- People who share their hearts generously, even in hard seasons
- That first deep breath when stepping outside after rain
- Cracking open a new cookbook full of possibilities
- Seeing a garden growāeven if it’s just one tomato at a time, watching spring flowers in bloom.
- Creating a space where others feel welcomed and understood
- Finding the perfect vintage dish at a secondhand shop
- An unexpected message from someone saying āyou helped meā
- Fireflies blinking in the dusk
- Hearing a song that feels like my story
- Quiet resilienceāmine, and the kind I witness in others
- The steady rhythm of preparing food with love
- The strength it takes to rise again
- Watching Dan, my love preparing a meal with all the love in his heart only for me.
- The legacy Iām buildingāone meal, one story, one heart at a time
šæ Find the Joy. Share the Light. Sometimes happiness isnāt loudāitās tucked inside small moments: a grandchildās giggle, a hug after a long wait, the smell of garlic on the stove, or a tomato still warm from the sun.
These tiny treasures shape our days and ground our hearts.
So today, Iām inviting you to take notice. ⨠What made you smile this morning? ⨠What memory keeps your spirit rooted?
Write it down. Share it. Celebrate it. Because joy multiplies when we speak it out loud.
