When Beauty Beckons From the Front Yard

Daily writing prompt
Go on a walk today and share a photo of something that catches your eye.

By Michelle Allen

There are days when beauty doesn’t whisper — it steps right into your path and asks to be noticed. That’s what happened to me this morning as I walked past the front yard and caught sight of the irises, their soft purples and buttery yellows glowing even through the imperfect haze of my camera lens.

They weren’t posed. They weren’t perfect. But they were alive — stretching toward the light, swaying in the breeze, and reminding me that nature rarely waits for us to be ready. It blooms anyway.

My yard is waking up in full chorus right now. Lilacs releasing their perfume into the air. Rose of Sharon preparing its summer show. Blossoms and branches layered like a living tapestry. And woven through it all: the hum of bees, the flutter of butterflies, the quick dart of birds who seem to know they’re part of the story too.

There’s something grounding about watching the world come alive right outside your door. It’s a reminder that beauty doesn’t always require a grand adventure — sometimes it’s waiting in the places we pass by every day.

So here’s my gentle nudge for you today:

Go on a walk. Step outside. Let something catch your eye — a flower, a shadow, a bird, a moment — and take a photo of it. Not because it needs to be perfect, but because noticing beauty is its own kind of gratitude.

If you feel like sharing, I’d love to see what you discover.
