There’s a question that drifts through life like smoke from a campfire — thin, curling, impossible to hold, yet impossible to ignore: Do you think everything happens for a reason?
I’ve asked myself that more times than I can count. Usually on quiet mornings when the house is still, or on long drives down the back roads of rural Hesperia, where the trees lean in like they’re trying to overhear your thoughts.
Some days, I’m convinced the universe is a master weaver — stitching moments together with invisible thread. Other days, it feels more like a messy kitchen table: spilled coffee, half-finished plans, and a life that somehow still tastes good.
But lately, I’ve been thinking about the small things. The tiny pivots. The moments that don’t look like much until you realize they changed everything.
🌾 The Little Detours That Shape Us
Maybe it’s the job you didn’t get.
Maybe it’s the person you met because you were running late.
Maybe it’s the way a random conversation nudged you toward a dream you didn’t know you were brave enough to chase.
Life is full of these quiet reroutes. Not dramatic. Not cinematic. Just… directional.
Like the universe whispering, “Try this instead.”
🌙 The Mystery in the Mess
I don’t think everything happens for a reason in the neat, fortune-cookie way. Not every heartbreak is a lesson. Not every loss is a gift wrapped in disguise. Some things hurt simply because they hurt.
But I do think meaning has a way of growing in the cracks — slowly, stubbornly, like wildflowers pushing through gravel.
Sometimes the reason doesn’t show up until years later. Sometimes it never shows up at all. And sometimes, the reason isn’t cosmic — it’s human. It’s the way you changed. The way you softened. The way you learned to carry yourself differently.
🌤️ Maybe the Reason Is You
Here’s the part I keep circling back to: Maybe things don’t happen for a reason. Maybe they happen, and we give them reason.
We’re the ones who turn experiences into stories. We’re the ones who find patterns in the chaos. We’re the ones who decide what mattered and why.
Meaning isn’t handed to us — we make it. We craft it the way we craft our days, our choices, our healing.
And there’s something empowering about that. It means we’re not just passengers. We’re authors.
🌿 Closing Reflection
So do I think everything happens for a reason? I think life is more complicated, more mysterious, and more beautifully tangled than a simple yes or no.
But I do believe this:
Whatever happens, we have the ability — and the right — to shape it into something meaningful. To turn it into a stepping stone, a story, a shift, a truth. To let it grow us.
And maybe that’s the real reason after all.
