What’s Stirring Beneath the Willow?

By Michelle Allen

There has been so much stirring beneath the willow lately.

Some of it has been quiet and hidden, like roots stretching deeper beneath the soil. Some of it has arrived suddenly, like an unexpected knock at the door when the rest of the world is asleep.

For those who have been following my journey, I am still hard at work finalizing my books. The process has taken longer than I anticipated, but I have come to understand that good things often require patience. I have been polishing chapters, rewriting passages, discovering better ways to tell stories, and carefully selecting images that help bring those stories to life. Each revision feels like another layer being uncovered, revealing what was always meant to be there.

Writing is a strange kind of journey. Sometimes it feels like flying forward at full speed. Other times it feels like taking one thoughtful step after another through a dense forest. Lately, I have been doing a little of both.

Outside of writing, life continues to present its own set of challenges. Home repairs and remodeling projects seem to have developed minds of their own. Every task completed reveals two more waiting patiently in line. While progress may be slower than I’d like, there is something satisfying about rebuilding, repairing, and creating spaces that feel more like home with each passing week.

At the same time, I am continuing my own healing journey. Healing is rarely a straight path. It comes in waves, in lessons, in moments of strength and moments of rest. Some days feel victorious. Other days simply remind us to be gentle with ourselves. Both are important.

And then, in the midst of all this, came one of the sweetest surprises imaginable.

At 3:00 in the morning, after traveling nearly 1,000 miles in just 17 straight hours, my love arrived unexpectedly.

No grand announcement. No elaborate planning. Just the incredible gift of showing up.

There are moments in life that remind us what truly matters, and this was one of them. After so many miles, so many hours on the road, and so much anticipation, seeing that familiar face standing there felt almost unreal. It was a beautiful reminder that love often speaks loudest through actions rather than words.

That unexpected visit brought joy into a season that has been filled with deadlines, dust, paint, revisions, repairs, and recovery. It reminded me to pause, breathe, and appreciate the blessings that find us when we least expect them.

So, beneath the willow, life continues to stir.

Books are being finished.

Stories are being refined.

Rooms are being rebuilt.

Wounds are healing.

And love continues to find its way home.

Thank you for walking this journey with me. As always, I look forward to sharing more updates, more stories, and hopefully very soon, the finished books that have occupied so much of my heart and time.

Until next time, may you find beauty in the work, peace in the healing, and joy in the unexpected surprises along the way.

With gratitude,
Michelle Allen

One response to “What’s Stirring Beneath the Willow?”

  1. What a beautiful and deeply heartfelt reflection, Michelle. 🌿❤️ I love the recurring image of the willow—it becomes a perfect metaphor for your journey: rooted, patient, quietly growing, and able to bend without breaking.

Your description of the book-writing process is wonderfully honest. The revisions, the waiting, the uncertainty, and the gradual uncovering of what was always meant to be there remind us that meaningful creative work cannot always be rushed. Sometimes the story needs time to find its true shape.
