The genie grants you a wish. What is it?

If a genie suddenly appeared and offered me one wish, I’d like to think I’d come up with something profound and world-changing. Maybe world peace. Maybe unlimited patience. Maybe a magic wand that folds laundry, cleans the house, and answers emails.
But if I’m being completely honest, my first thought would probably be: Can you grant me eight hours of sleep that actually feels like eight hours of sleep?
As a student, mom, grandmother, Peer Mentor, and someone constantly juggling a dozen responsibilities, sleep sometimes feels more mythical than the genie itself.
Once I got past my wish for uninterrupted sleep, though, I think my real wish would be much simpler: I would wish for more time with the people I love.
Life has a way of moving faster than we expect. The kids grow up, grandkids grow older, semesters fly by, and before you know it, another year has passed. While money can solve some problems and success can open doors, neither can buy back missed moments or create more time.
Don’t get me wrong. A lifetime supply of coffee and a bank account that magically replenishes itself every morning would be tempting. Very tempting. But when I think about what matters most, it’s the memories made around the dinner table, the conversations with family, the laughs with friends, and the opportunity to help others along the way.
I’d want just a little more time to enjoy those moments. More family gatherings. More adventures. More opportunities to encourage someone who needs support. More chances to watch dreams become reality, both my own and the people I care about.
Maybe that’s the funny thing about wishes. When we’re younger, we often wish for things. As we get older, we start wishing for moments.
So if a genie showed up at my door tomorrow, that’s what I’d ask for: more meaningful time with the people I love and the ability to make the most of every minute.
Of course, if the genie said I could have a second wish, I’d definitely ask for the self-cleaning house.
