What’s something you’ve done that your past self would be proud of?

There was a time when speaking up in front of a group felt terrifying. I would overthink every word, worry about making mistakes, and often question whether I belonged in the room at all. If you had told my younger self that one day I would be leading discussions, mentoring fellow students, giving presentations, and helping create supportive spaces for others, I probably wouldn’t have believed you.

What I think my past self would be most proud of isn’t a specific achievement or title. It’s the fact that I kept going.

I returned to school despite life’s responsibilities and challenges. I’ve pushed myself outside my comfort zone, even when I felt nervous or unsure. I’ve learned that confidence doesn’t come from never being afraid. It comes from taking the next step anyway.

Along the way, I’ve discovered a passion for helping others. Whether it’s through mentoring, writing, volunteering, or simply encouraging someone who is struggling, I’ve realized that some of the most meaningful accomplishments aren’t measured by grades or awards. They’re measured by the positive impact we have on the people around us.

My past self would also be proud that I’ve learned to be kinder to myself. For years, I focused on what I hadn’t accomplished yet rather than recognizing how far I had already come. Today, I’m better at celebrating progress, embracing imperfections, and understanding that growth is a journey, not a destination.

There are still goals I haven’t reached and dreams I continue to pursue. But when I look back at where I started, I can honestly say that I’ve become someone my younger self would admire: someone who keeps learning, keeps growing, and keeps showing up even when things are difficult.

And perhaps that’s something worth being proud of.

What about you? What’s something you’ve done that would make your past self smile and say, “Look how far we’ve come”?
