Some movies entertain. Some move us. And some become part of our emotional DNAāwoven into the way we see love, loss, friendship, and even ourselves. Here are ten films that have stayed with me over the years, each for their own reason. Maybe youāll see a few of your favorites here too.
1. Dances with Wolves Epic, haunting, and deeply human. This one stirred something in me about belonging, respect, and the stories we miss when we donāt listen.
2. Dirty Dancing āNobody puts Baby in a corner.ā Enough said. But alsoāthis movie is about courage, growth, and finding your voice. Plus, the soundtrack? Iconic.
3. Ghost Love that transcends death, pottery that became a cultural moment, and Whoopi Goldberg stealing every scene. I cry every time.
4. Pretty Woman A modern fairy tale with grit. Julia Robertsā laugh, Richard Gereās transformation, and the reminder that everyone deserves a second chance.
5. Terms of Endearment This one wrecks meāin the best way. Itās messy, real, and full of the kind of love that doesnāt always look perfect but runs deep.
6. Pirates of the Caribbean (or anything with Johnny Depp) Adventure, wit, and a little chaos. Jack Sparrow is the kind of character you canāt help but root for, even when heās wildly unpredictable.
7. Halloween This oneās more than just a classic horror flickāitās personal. Halloween was the very first ādate movieā my then (and now current) boyfriend and I saw together. I still have the back of his high school picture, signed with a warning that makes me smile to this day: āP.S. Donāt let Michael get you.ā Itās funny how a scary movie can become a sweet memory. That night, the thrill of the film mixed with the thrill of something newāyoung love, nervous laughter, and the kind of connection that sticks.
8. Steel Magnolias Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion. This one is all about friendship, resilience, and the strength of Southern women. I quote it often.
9. Fast Times at Ridgemont High A snapshot of teenage chaos, awkwardness, and rebellion. Itās funny, cringey, and somehow still relevant.
10. The Breakfast Club Five strangers, one Saturday, and a whole lot of truth. This movie reminds me that weāre all more than the boxes weāre put in.
These movies arenāt just favoritesātheyāre part of my story. What are yours? Drop your top ten in the comments or share the one film that changed the way you see the world. Iād love to hear.
