If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be?

There’s a special kind of magic in imagining a dinner table that doesn’t obey the rules of time, reality, or genre. Fiction lets us wander into worlds stitched from wonder, danger, tenderness, and possibility — so why not pull up a chair in one of them?

Maybe your dinner guest would be Atticus Finch, steady as an oak tree, offering quiet wisdom between bites of cornbread. Or perhaps Elizabeth Bennet, whose wit could turn even a simple meal into a lively dance of ideas.

Some might choose Gandalf, arriving precisely when he means to, staff leaning against the table as he tells stories older than mountains. Others might invite Sherlock Holmes, who would notice every detail — the spice in the soup, the faint scratch on your plate, the way you hold your fork — and somehow make it all fascinating.

But the beauty of this question isn’t just in choosing a character. It’s in choosing the conversation you’re hungry for.

📚 And What About the Literary Legends?

Not all dinner guests have to be born from fantasy or mystery. Some come from the minds of writers who shaped entire generations of readers.

Imagine Stephen King at your table — not with horror, but with that surprising gentleness he carries beneath the shadows. He might talk about small towns, human courage, and the strange ways fear teaches us who we are.

Or Edgar Allan Poe, arriving like a raven’s whisper, his eyes full of moonlit melancholy. Dinner with Poe wouldn’t be frightening — it would be hauntingly beautiful, a conversation about longing, mystery, and the thin veil between imagination and reality.

Then there’s Elizabeth Brontë (or any of the Brontë sisters), who might sit with her hands folded, speaking softly but fiercely about passion, independence, and the wildness of the human heart.

And Maya Angelou — oh, what a dinner that would be. Her voice alone could season the meal. She’d talk about resilience, joy, justice, and the way a person can rise, again and again, like dawn breaking over a quiet Michigan field.

🍽️ What Would You Want From the Meal?

Would you want guidance? Adventure? A laugh? A mystery solved? A moment of courage? A reminder that you’re stronger than you think?

Fictional characters carry pieces of us — the parts we admire, fear, long for, or wish we could grow into. Sitting across from one is like sitting across from a version of yourself you haven’t fully met yet.
