This is Bullet — our steadfast, sunglasses-wearing, bandana-sporting guardian of the front cab. He was my husband Darwin’s constant companion, riding with him to town as if the truck belonged to them both. Ever watchful, observant, and fiercely protective when needed, yet soft-hearted and loyal to the people he loved.
On October 14, 2021, when Darwin passed away at home, Bullet was right there beside him. And from that day forward, he became mine — never leaving my side, carrying both grief and devotion with a quiet dignity only a dog can hold.
Three years later, when he followed Darwin across that final field, I wrote this poem for him:

In fields of green where shadows play, A faithful friend has gone away. Beloved Bullet, strong and true, Now rests beneath the sky so blue.
With antics, bold and stubborn ways, He brightened up our darkest days. A playful pup with a heart so grand, He’d hunt and roam across the land.
In twilight’s hush, he’d lay so still, Invisible, yet presence-filled. A gentle giant, black as night, A loyal friend, a guiding light.
Through trials faced, he stood so brave, A hip replaced, yet still he gave His all to chase and keep the pace, With Luna’s side, he’d find his place.
Though years have passed and time was tough, His spirit strong, his love enough. Now reunited, master near, In memories, he’ll linger here.

Bullet was uniquely himself in every way — stubborn, playful, brave, gentle, and endlessly devoted. A presence you felt even in silence. A protector, a companion, a piece of our hearts we’ll carry forever.
