There’s something sacred about imagining a meal shared with a writer whose words have shaped the way you see the world. It’s not just about conversation — it’s communion. A meeting of minds and hearts over candlelight and steaming plates, where sentences become sustenance and silence feels like understanding.

If I could have dinner with any author, I’d choose Maya Angelou. Not because she’s famous, but because her voice carries the kind of truth that doesn’t fade. I imagine her laughter filling the room like music, her stories unfolding like rivers — steady, deep, and full of life. She’d talk about resilience, about joy, about the way pain can be transformed into poetry.

Or perhaps Jane Austen — sharp‑eyed and witty, her humor as delicate as lace and as cutting as glass. I’d ask her how she managed to write about love with such clarity, without ever losing her independence.

Then again, there’s Stephen King — whose imagination could turn even a quiet dinner into a story worth telling. I’d want to ask him about the humanity beneath the horror, the tenderness that hides behind his monsters.

But maybe the truth is this: the author we’d most love to dine with is the one who reminds us of ourselves. The one whose words feel like home.

Dinner with an author isn’t about fame or brilliance — it’s about connection. It’s about sitting across from someone who has already spoken to your soul through ink and paper, and realizing that conversation was happening long before you ever met.

So tonight, if I could, I’d set the table with simple food and open space for wonder. I’d listen more than I’d speak. And I’d leave the table changed — not by the meal, but by the reminder that words, when shared, can feed us in ways nothing else can.
