Some couples send sweet good morning texts. Others share memes, songs, or photos of their day.
Dan and I send food.
When we’re apart, our phones become a running gallery of steaks fresh off the grill, burgers piled high with toppings, homemade desserts, and meals we’re especially proud of. Somewhere between “Look what I made!” and “I wish you were here to share this,” we’ve created our own love language: food photos.
Some might call it food porn. We call it staying connected.
Dan is an incredible cook. Whenever I’m in Oklahoma City, I’m completely spoiled by meals that somehow manage to be both comforting and impressive. He’s the kind of person who can turn an ordinary dinner into something memorable. Every meal feels like it was made with care, and honestly, that’s what makes it so special.
I’d like to think I hold my own in the kitchen, too.
While desserts are definitely my specialty, I enjoy creating hearty meals and trying new recipes. There’s something satisfying about putting together a meal for the people you care about, whether it’s a plate of cookies fresh from the oven or a dinner that brings everyone around the table.
The photos below are just a few recent additions to our ever-growing collection.

Just good food, shared across the miles.
Maybe that’s one of the beautiful things about love. It finds simple ways to stay present. Sometimes it’s a phone call. Sometimes it’s a text message. And sometimes it’s a picture of a perfectly cooked steak, sautéed mushrooms, or a burger that looks too good not to brag about.
Until the next meal together, we’ll keep sending photos, swapping recipes, and reminding each other that even when we’re apart, we’re still sharing a seat at each other’s table.
❤️
What about you? What’s something small you and your loved ones share to stay connected when you’re apart?
