At this stage of my life, I am not currently working and am living on my modest pension. While it isn’t always easy, it has given me time to think about what truly matters and what I would choose to do if money weren’t the deciding factor.
The prompt asks: If the salary was the same, what job would you be doing right now and why?
Without hesitation, I would choose a job that combines my love of writing, creativity, and storytelling.
For as long as I can remember, writing has been one of my greatest passions. Whether it’s blogging, journaling, creating stories, or simply sharing my thoughts and experiences, writing allows me to connect with others in a meaningful way. There is something special about putting words on a page and knowing they might inspire, encourage, or resonate with someone else.
I would love to be a full-time writer, blogger, or author. Imagine spending each day doing something you genuinely enjoy while helping others see the world through your eyes. Whether I was writing about my travels, my hobbies, life lessons, or personal experiences, I believe I would find great satisfaction in knowing my words could make someone smile, think, or feel less alone.
Travel writing would be especially appealing. In recent years, I’ve discovered a love for travel that I never expected. For most of my life, I stayed close to home, but stepping outside of my comfort zone has opened my eyes to new places, cultures, and possibilities. Being able to travel and share those experiences through writing would feel less like work and more like an adventure.
I also enjoy creative pursuits like drawing, painting, embroidery, and reading. If I could combine those interests with writing, perhaps creating content about creativity, lifelong learning, and finding joy in everyday life, I think I would be doing exactly what I was meant to do.
Of course, I still hope to find a job I love that pays well before I begin collecting Social Security. But if every job paid the same, I wouldn’t be looking for the highest paycheck. I would be looking for purpose, fulfillment, and the opportunity to spend my days doing something that brings me happiness.
Life is too short not to pursue what you love when you have the chance.
And if money were no object, you’d probably find me with a laptop in front of me, a cup of coffee nearby, and a story waiting to be told.
