When I think about a song that changed my life, “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac immediately comes to mind.
The first time I heard it, I appreciated its beautiful melody. As the years passed, however, I began to understand the lyrics on a much deeper level. What once sounded like a song about growing older became a reflection of life’s many seasons and the changes we all experience.
Life rarely turns out exactly as we imagine. Dreams evolve, relationships change, children grow up, loved ones pass on, and before we know it, we find ourselves looking back at the road we’ve traveled. There have been moments in my life when the ground seemed to shift beneath my feet, times when I faced difficult decisions, unexpected challenges, and the uncertainty that comes with new beginnings.
What I love most about “Landslide” is its honesty. It acknowledges that change can be frightening, but it also reminds us that growth often comes from those very moments that test us. Just like a tree bends in the wind, we learn to adapt, heal, and move forward.
As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to realize that every experience, both good and bad, has shaped who I am today. The struggles taught me resilience. The losses taught me gratitude. The joys gave me memories to cherish. Looking back, I wouldn’t erase any part of the journey because each chapter has contributed to the story of my life.
“Landslide” reminds me that change is not something to fear. It is simply part of living. We may not always know what lies ahead, but we can trust that every season brings opportunities to learn, grow, and discover new strength within ourselves.
The older I get, the more this song feels less like music and more like wisdom set to a melody.
